Julie Miller is one of my favorite artists - I think her songwriting is right up there with Sara Groves. Always honest and thought provoking. This song SOS (Sick of Sex) came to mind with the current discussions on sexual purity. This song is from her second album, Orphans and Angels.
This is making me sick, I can't stand it any more
You make sex so dirty, let me out the door
What was supposed to be personal, supposed to be clean
Supposed to be private you make a public scene
You manipulate the innocent, exploit the weak
You aim for the ones too young to know the lies you speak
One more commercial you don't care what it costs
You get the profit you don't care whose soul got lost
I'm sick of sex being abused
I'm sick of sex being used and misused to sell me
I'm sick of sex
Being used and confused by the lies you tell me
Well you lower yourself and you want to take me down, too
You want to intimidate anyone who don't think like you
You make people less than animals, turn a child into a whore
Make a precious thing worthless just to sell a little more
You seem sophisticated but you're so depraved
You turn love into a lie until there's nothing left to save
Your corruption spreads all around just like a rash
You dehumanize us all by this filthy trash
Hollywood is king, rock and roll is next around
Magazines, tv, we all fall down
We got it smeared on every street where we go and where we come
We've got it shoved in our face 'till we all go numb
What's a child supposed to think by the picture he gets
You rip off his self respect with no regrets
You pollute the atmosphere 'till we suffocate
I'm so disgusted I can't see straight
